Hydraulic Services & Repairs (HSR)

Over the years, HSR has grown into a well established company in the heart of Dunedin.

Mike McCarthy started his business as a one-man-band out of a shed.  Growing steadily and moving to (and now from) Willis Street, the business purchased the building on Ward Street.  After several months of planning and renovating, they are in a great new space with a large showroom.  Partnering with other great companies like RYCO 24.7 for hydraulic hose repair, Trojan Trailer for trailer parts, Palfinger being a service agent has led to the great business it now is.

HSR has a great Health & Safety programme, which can be attributed to the staff who ensure their own safety and safety of others around them always comes first.

The company has evolved into a group of hard working, experienced and committed team members.

Shane has an automotive background.  Being an automotive technician for 5 years, he came to work for Mike in late 2010.  He has just qualified as a Mechanical Engineer with Mike putting him through his apprenticeship.

Shane is Palfinger trained, so any issues on your cranes – he is our man.  Diagnostics and solutions, servicing, can all be done in the new workshop.

Away from work, Shane is a new dad to a lovely wee boy.  When he isn’t cuddling his wee bundle of joy, you can find him hugging his other bundle of joy – his road bike.

Russell is a qualified Fitter/Turner with over 30 years experience in the game.  You will find him in the workshop repairing rams, and helping others where he can.  His vast knowledge from over the years is amazing when it comes to the tricky jobs.

Away from work he loves to spend his weekends fishing, and spending time with his grandson.  So much in fact, he has Mondays off as well.

Warren came to us as a Qualified Heavy Fabricator/Boiler Maker with over 20 years experience.

Starting his employment in late 2015 he works in our Machine Shop.  Being a busy little beaver, he is always hard at it on the lathe or welding.

Away from work, he is a proud dad of two.  He loves to spend weekends hunting, fishing, camping or being outdoors in general.  “It’s better to burn out than to fade away”

The youngest of the McCarthy family, Andrew has done his pre-trade in Carpentry.  When the Ward Street building was under refurbishment, Andrew came and become part of the team.  He spent his weeks working with our builders to rearrange the place into our great workshop we have now.

He is now an integral part of the workshop.  Not only does he fix rams and service things from jacks to excavators, he always manages to keep the BPE part of his title under control.  (BPE – Broom Pusher Entrepreneur) every workshop has one.

Away from work Andrew likes to go Diving/Fishing/Hunting.  Basically anything outdoors.  He also has a great interest in technology.

Karen employed herself in the later part of 2011, to help sort the administration side of things.  Being the step-daughter-inlaw (outlaw) has allowed Karen to keep her “south otago straight shooting” method going.  Administration has been in the blood for over 30 years, and she also has a Diploma in Business Management.  Since moving to Ward Street, Karen can be found hiding in her office sorting the companies Health & Safety, and all the background admin for a business like GST, wages, all the fun stuff like creating our radio advertising on the Ward St, Ward St, Ward St, Ward St, Ward St, Ward St Round-about.

Away from work, Karen is a closet petrol head that swings all ways from Holden to Ford and Chev.  Prefers to garden but always has time for hubby and child, and supports the school in the sports her little monster par-takes in.
